HB1160 An act to amend the prescriptive authority of an APRN

House Bill 1160(HB1160) was heard on 2/26/2015, before the Public Health Committee of the House.. The vote on the bill has been postponed at the request of the sponsor, Rep Hammer to obtain more precise information regarding the numbers of primary care physicians by county, and to amend the bill by cutting the number of counties the APRNs would serve to 39 rather than 73.

HIPAA Violations Can Have Consequences: WellPoint pays HHS $1.7 million for leaving information accessible over Internet

The managed care company WellPoint Inc. has agreed to pay the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) $1.7 million to settle potential violations of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA) Privacy and Security Rules.

This case sends an important message to HIPAA-covered entities to take caution when implementing changes to their information systems, especially when those changes involve updates to Web-based applications or portals that are used to provide access to consumers’ health data using the Internet.
